Hyderabad: The land on which Hyderabad Race Course Club and Chanchalguda Central Prison are located will be taken over by the Telangana State government for building residential schools for boys and girls of minorities. This was decided on Saturday.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, while holding a review on minorities’ welfare on Saturday, asked the authorities to shift the Race Course and the Central Prison to an alternative place and build residential schools for boys and girls of minorities on the land.
The Chief Minister felt that a huge chunk of land is required for the construction of residential schools for the children of minority communities as their population is more in the city compared with other parts of the state. He said that the Race Course and the Central Prison are on vast extent of lands and these lands will suit the requirement.
He directed officials to initiate steps to see that 60 residential schools, 30 each for girls and boys belonging to minority communities, function from the next academic year in the state in the first phase.
While directing authorities to take steps to recruit 2,100 teaching and non-teaching staff required to run the residential schools, the Chief Minister suggested to the officers to run the schools in rented accommodation, for a period of one year and in the meanwhile commence the construction of buildings at places identified for the schools and finish the construction in a year.
