New Delhi: The much-awaited notification for the implementation of the one-rank-one-pension scheme for armed forces veterans was issued by the government on Saturday.
On Friday, the ex-servicemen, upset at the delay in notification, had decided to return their medals.
The government had promised the veterans that a notification putting OROP into effect would be issued as soon as the Bihar Assembly election was over, pleading that the model code of conduct prohibited it from notifying new schemes during elections.
Defence minister Manohar Parrikar had earlier said the government was trying to issue the notification before Diwali, which falls on November 11.As many as 25 lakh military veterans are expected to benefit from the scheme.
