Kozhikode retains red tag
KOZHIKODE: The LDF recorded an impressive performance in the civic poll in the district by retaining the corporation and district panchayat. The LDF also won five out of seven municipalities and nine block panchayats out of 12 in the district. The UDF could manage to win only two municipalities and three block panchayats.
The RMP faced a huge embarrassment in Onchiyam where the CPM won seven seats against two in the last elections. In 2010, the RMP had come out victorious in eight seats whereas the LDF secured five seats and the UDF got four. However this time, the RMP could win only in six seats while the UDF retained their four seats.
In Kozhikode Corporation, the LDF bettered their position by winning 48 seats against 41 last time. The UDF faced a huge setback and was reduced to 20 seats against 34 in 2010.
The BJP made impressive gains by winning seven seats. Last time, it had no representatives in the council. The LDF has been ruling the corporation for the last four decades.
In the district panchayat, the LDF won 16 seats out of 27 and the UDF 11 whereas the BJP couldn't open its account. In 2010, the LDF had won 15 and the UDF 13 in the 28-division district panchayat.
The LDF retained its supremacy in municipalities by winning five out of seven bodies. While they repeated the victory in Vadakara and Koyilandy, the LDF won in newly created Faroke, Koilandy, Mukkam and Ramanattukara municipalities.
The UDF won in Payyoli and Koduvally. In grama panchayats, the LDF won 632 seats whereas the UDF won 521. The BJP won 13 seats and the others 60 seats.
