Kasturi has emotional reunion with family

CM announces Rs 10L aid for Vellore woman

Chennai: Kasturi Munirathinam, 56, the domestic help from Vellore district, who underwent a nightmarish ordeal at the hands of her employer in Saudi Arabia, returned to Chennai on Saturday.
She was accorded an emotional reception by her family members and neighbours from her village at the airport here.

Her family expressed gratitude to the Central and state governments for their efforts in ensuring her arrival and also to Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa for announcing a financial aid of '10 lakh to her.

About 60 persons including her husband Munirathinam, son Mohan and daughters: Vanaja, Lakshmi and Selvi, her sisters and three vans packed with her other relatives and well-wishers gathered at the airport to receive Kasturi who arrived in a Saudi Arabian Airlines flight.

A team of doctors who received her reportedly said she was too weak to spend more time with the visitors and immediately rushed her to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital for a check-up and treatment. An emotional Kasturi burst into tears upon seeing her relatives and well-wishers.

A few mediapersons who attempted to speak to her were shoved by the airport security personnel. Later, the mediapersons took up the issue with higher officials. Kasturi’s right hand was chopped off by her employer at Riyadh in Saudi Arabia when she attempted to flee from the house in the first week of October unable to bear the torture. She hails from Koongilaeri village at Katpadi Taluk in Vellore district. Kasturi was greeted by government officials as soon as she landed. She went to Riyadh on July 28 to work as a house maid on a monthly salary of Rs 23,000 to bail her family out of debt.
