Hyderabad's NRI brothers charged with bank fraud

Farooq reportedly had a discussion with his brother through email idea of Jihad in India

Hyderabad: The US District Court of the Northern District of Ohio charged four men with conspiring to travel to Yemen to provide thousands of dollars to Anwar Al-Awlaki in an effort to support violent jihad against US military personnel in Iraq, Afghanistan and throughout the world.

Two NRI brothers from Hyderabad, Farooq and Ibrahim, also face an additional count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud to raise the money, said US Department of Justice.

Farooq reportedly had a discussion with his brother through email idea of Jihad in India. A source said that Farooq, who studied electrical engineering from 1995 to 1999, went to US in 2000 and joined Louisiana State University and later earned a Master’s degree in electrical engineering from Ohio State University.

Farooq and his brother’s passport have not shown any evidence of coming to India in the recent past. However, intelligence officials are concerned about them supporting any terror activities in the country. Meanwhile, intelligence officials from Telangana state police said that they have not got any official communication so far.
