Demand for new Secunderabad district
Secunderabad people want a district and a Greater Secunderabad Municipal Corporation, says Goud
Hyderabad: Now it’s demand for a new Secunderabad district. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s electoral promise to create a dozen odd new districts from the present 10 has led to demands from various quarters. A group of professionals have formed a new Secunderabad Zilla Udyama Karya Charana Samithi asking the government to create a separate Secunderabad district.
Naguluri Krishna Kumar Goud, a HC advocate and chief coordinator of the newly formed Samithi said a campaign would be launched next week to achieve their demands.
“Secunderabad was a separate entity before 1960. It was merged with Hyderabad and that led to deterioration of the city. The CM is spending crores on Yadagirigutta and other temples but the city is going to dogs. Only a separate district can facilitate development,” Goud told DC.
Goud along with Dr C Harikumar, Dr Kishore Babu and a dozen odd professionals from various parts of the city met and decided to launch a movement for a district. The Samithi also wants the government to merge the cantonment areas into the new Secunderabad district barring defence establishments. “We took the decision after seeing the neglect of Secunderabad, especially the cantonment area. There is no proper drainage system, roads, lighting, drinking water and other basic facilities. We sounded out our plans with various sections and they backed us,” he said.
"The Secunderabad people want a district and a Greater Secunderabad Municipal Corporation to bring about development,” he added.
