33.3 per cent quota for women in Telangana police

It was also decided to scrap the five-km run for men and 2.5 km run for women
Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday approved 33.3 per cent quota for women in recruitments to civil jobs in the police. Women will also get 10 per cent quota in jobs in armed police units. Mr Rao also approved the filling of over 9,000 vacancies in the police at one go, the highest in recent times. However, the women’s quota will be implemented with prospective effect, and will come into force from the coming recruitment exams.
The age old practice of calling women police personnel woman SI or woman constable will also be done away with and they will be simply referred to as SI or constable like men.
It was also decided to scrap the five-km run for men and 2.5 km run for women as part of the physical efficiency test (PET) which resulted in the death of some applicants earlier. Officials also made certain changes in the PET. Earlier, males had to clear all the five sections, namely shot-put, high jump, long jump, 100-metre run and 800-metre run, while women had to clear three sections, namely, shot-put, long jump and 100-metre run.
A male candidate now has to clear any two sections along with 800-metre run, while a female has to clear any one section along with the 100-metre run.
It was also decided to conduct a trade test for applicants for mechanic posts in the police department. Person-ality tests would also be held for applicants. The personality test would assess knowledge and the understanding capabilities of candidates regarding society, country, women and deprived classes. It was also decided to include TS history as part of the written test syllabus.
