I am rationalist, not atheist: Kamal Haasan

Every five years they are asking whether I am joining politics, Kamal says

Chennai: On November 7, fans of Kamal Haasan chose to celebrate Ulaganayagan’s 61st birthday in a philanthropic way throughout the state. At a function organised here, the actor distributed several welfare measures to the needy and deserving ones. Speaking at the event, Kamal said, “Every time my films get released, I am asked whether I am a good actor. I am bound to answer and I have the guts to answer and that’s why I still continue to last in the film industry”

On his entering politics he said, “Every five years they are asking whether I am joining politics. Why they ask me that I know. But my route is different. Just because I am not politically leaning, it does not mean we don’t understand politics”.

Talking about tolerance level he said, “I consider death as one of my phase in my life. That’s why I celebrate my birthday and death anniversary of my father the same day. My rational thinking is not coming through politics. I don’t want people to criticise my rational thinking. You talk about tolerance. Listening to chants on the one side and to hyms of other religion on the other side, which is also known as tolerance. I am not an atheist. I am only a ‘rationalist’.” He also asked, “Why should I return the award? Did Gandhiji return the Barrister award given by the British? Kamal Haasan honored eminent writer K.Rajanarayanan on the occasion.
