Sapphire is known to be one of the hardest crystals found in nature, after diamond. This crystal is difficult to obtain and is fairly expensive. It was rumored that Apple will feature the iPhone 6 smartphones with a sapphire crystal as the display protection and so will the Watch. However, developments with the company manufacturing sapphire panels for Apple ran into bad weather and Apple dropped the iPhone Sapphire plans and went ahead with the Watch with a sapphire crystal face.
But Apple did not put the Sapphire on all the models. Only the expensive ones will have the hard crystal and they cost a bomb.
