Tragedy blows away Congress campaign

The Congress has been overtaken by TD-BJP combine
Hyderabad: The “cylinder bomb” tragedy that destroyed the S. Rajaiah household has literally blown away the Congress campaign in the Warangal Lok Sabha byelection. The Congress has been overtaken by TD-BJP combine, even as TRS nominee Pasanuri Dayakar has gain the upper hand over his rivals. Though the Congress promptly replaced its nominee Siricilla Rajaiah with Sarve Satyanarayana after the tragic death of his daughter-in-law and grandchildren, the damage was done.
“It’s really a huge setback for the party, politically. While the investigation is still on to ascertain the reasons behind the shocking deaths, the aftershocks might reflect in polls,” said a Congress MP. He said the party leadership needs to put in extra efforts and intensify its campaign to stay in the race against the TRS and BJP-TD combine.
Meanwhile, TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy dismissed rumours about suspension of former Congress MP Rajaiah which added to Congress woes.
“I don’t know who is spreading such rumours. Our campaign is on, in full swing,” he told Deccan Chronicle.
Agriculture minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy said the Opposition candidates will lose their deposits while TRS spokesperson Gattu Ramachandra Rao said the party’s victory is a mere formality.
Notwithstanding the incident, the candidates have hit the road and election fever has gripped the district.
However, for the ruling TRS, it will not be a cakewalk in view of the crisis in the farm sector.
