ISI engaging IM to stoke tension in India

Intelligence Bureau has put border states on alert against possible infiltration attempts

New Delhi: Pakistani intelligence agency ISI has engaged terrorists belonging to Indian Mujahideen and Indian extremist elements taking shelter in Pakistan to enter India and carry out vandalism at religious places for stoking communal tension and violence, latest intelligence reports have claimed.

The Intelligence Bureau has put the border states, like Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir particularly, on alert against possible infiltration attempts in the coming days. States like Haryana and Uttar Pradesh are vulnerable to such attacks and have been asked to take preventive steps as vandalism at religious places may lead to communal tension, the inputs have said.

The IB warning has been shared with all state governments and UTs, asking them to remain vigilant against possible attempts of communal disharmony, attacks on religious places and other nefarious designs of the terrorists.

“Terrorists belonging to the IM and Sikh radicals are taking shelter in Pakistan. The latest inputs suggest these elements are being prodded by ISI to carry out vandalism at religious places in India which will create communal disharmony,” a top government official said.

With the IM having virtually no active sleeper cells in the country, there is a high possibility that terrorists will be pushed across the border for effecting the nefarious design, the sources said.

In October, there were reports of five Pakistani terrorists entering India, prompting the central agencies to ask all the states to stay extra vigilant against any attempt by subversive elements to disrupt the peace and spark communal tensions during the festival season.

The latest threats come in the backdrop of sustained campaigns against cow slaughter by Hindu activists in recent weeks which have some times led to road-blockades, arson and communal incidents.
