Repoll ordered in 9 Thrissur booths
Re-polling was recommended at two booths at Arimbur and one each at Thiruvilwamala and Pazhayannur
Thrissur: State Election commission has ordered reelection in nine booths in Thrissur district after the electronic voting machines developed trouble on Thursday. The commission took the decision based on Collector A. Kowsigan’s report in this regard.
Re-polling was recommended at two booths at Arimbur and one each at Thiruvilwamala and Pazhayannur. “We received complaints from nearly 60 booths across the district before noon citing glitches in EVMs. The nine booths where re-polling was recommended are from the three-tier panchayats,” he said.
In the booths with one voting machine for corporations and municipalities, the EVM complaints were corrected before noon.
“In all the nine booths we replaced the EVMs, but glitches resurfaced and the voters returned home without voting. In some booths in three-tier panchayats, one of the three EVMs malfunctioned,’ he said
He ruled out any attempt to rig the polls saying that the EVMs could not be tampered with. CPM district secretary A.C. Moideen has shot off a letter to the SEC seeking re-poll in 12 booths in seven panchayats. According to the party, polling in 137 booths in Thrissur was affected due to technical snag in EVMs.
