Pranavananda Swamiji declared support for Dr Parameshwar
Mangaluru: After a section of Congress leaders supported Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president Dr G Parameshwar for the post of deputy chief minister, he now seems to have received support from an expected quarter.
In an interesting development Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha state president Pranavananda Swamiji, on Thursday declared support for Dr Parameshwar as Chief Minister! “From the beginning I have been maintaining that Dr Parameshwar should be made the Chief Minister. But it did not happen. We need a Dalit Chief Minister. Dalits should be promoted and elevated to the post of Chief Minister in Karnataka. We will be proud if this is done. Hindu Mahasabha will completely support Dr Parameshwar,” Pranavananda said.
He expressed happiness over the change of Home Minister and said Hindu Mahasabha too had been demanding this. “Dr Parameshwar is a cultured person, it is good that he has now got a good post, that of home minister,” he added.
Pranavananda wanted the Chief Minister to apologise for his statement on beef. “By November 18-19 a meeting of seers would be held in the state where a decision would be taken whether a person who gives statements hurting the sentiments of Hindus should be allowed to participate in progammes of maths and temples,” he declared.
He said that pork would be sent to the Chief Minister from all the districts of the state for his statement on beef. “Already it has been sent from Vijayapura. The respective district committees will decide the date and send pork to Siddaramaih,” Pranavananda Swamiji said and added that permission from Governor would be sought to book a case against the Chief Minister for his statement on beef. He also asked people to boycott the films of Shah Rukh Khan for his comment on intolerance.
Lobbying on for minister in-charge of Tumakuru:
After KPCC President G Parameshwar got the plum portfolio of ‘Home’, his supporters and a few of Congress leaders are lobbying for district in-charge Minister for Tumakuru. Even Madhugiri MLA K N Rajanna, who once voiced his disapproval against Parameshwar is supporting him for the post of district in-charge, saying that he has led the PCC to power.
But, senior Congress leader and Minister for Law T.B. Jayachandra is reluctant to let go of the post. Party sources say that he is unwilling to give up the post of district in-charge as he would find it difficult to maintain his grip on officers and people of Tumakuru. Jayachandra is keen to hold on to the district as he plans to bring his son Santhosh Jayachandra to politics through council polls. Sources said it would be easy for Madhugiri MLA K.N. Rajanna to introduce his son Rajendra as an MLC candidate in council polls if Jayachandra gives up the post to Parameshwar and hence he has vested interests in Parameshwar taking over as district in-charge Minister.
