EVKS Elangovan slams government for anti-liquor campaigner Kovan’s arrest
Kovan’s songs against the Tasmac liquor shops in Tamil Nadu, created waves on the social media
TIRUPUR: The State Congress president E.V.K.S. Elangovan slammed the Tamil Nadu government for arresting folk singer and anti-liquor campaigner Kovan on sedition charges for his musical propaganda for closure of state-run Tasmac liquor shops
Folk singer Kovan’s songs against the Tasmac liquor shops in Tamil Nadu, created waves on the social media.
As his songs attacked the state government for opening liquor shops in all nooks of the state, he was arrested on charges of sedition and attempt to destabilise a democratically elected government.
“Nothing is wrong in his song and his arrest is unacceptable. More youth in the state become addicted to liquor, as the AIADMK government has opened liquor outlets in every street. About 20 lakh young women have become widows in Tamil Nadu because they lost their husbands to alcoholism,” Elangovan said.
