Bhavani Revanna may enter council poll fray this time

It is Mr Gowda who has to take a call on Bhavani’s candidature
HASSAN: The daughter-in-law of former PM and Hassan MP H.D. Deve Gowda, Bhavani Revanna, who has been cherishing dreams of entering the electoral fray for quite a few years, might get the nod this time from JD(S) leaders to contest the Council poll from local bodies constituency in Hassan. However, it is Mr Gowda who has to take a call on Bhavani’s candidature.
Bhavani, wife of former minister and Holenarsipur MLA H.D. Revanna, is not the only name to be discussed in the party, said a party source adding that former MLA A.T. Ramaswamy, party leaders Dodde Gowda, Raje Gowda, former MLA Karigowda and sitting MLC Patel Shivram are also in the reckoning for the party ticket.
It is said that chances of Mr Shivaram getting ticket are bleak since the MLC has failed to live up to the expectations of district party MLAs in awarding grants for their constituencies. Besides there are fears that if Mr Shivaram is fielded again, then the JD(S) votes would split which might help the Congress. Time is ripe for the entry of Bhavani, the source said. She is the frontrunner for ticket since she worked for the success of the party in previous elections and is a candidate who would keep JD(S) votes intact.
Earlier, Bhavani’s name was discussed in party circles to field her from K R Pet (Mandya), KR Nagar (Mysuru) and Belur assembly segment (Hassan) but she could not get the green signal from Mr Gowda. Mr Gowda had reportedly asked her to wait before she could take a plunge into electoral politics.
