100 sovereigns gold looted from Namakkal temple
NAMAKKAL: A gang of burglars gained entry into a temple near Namakkal in the late night of Wednesday and decamped with 100 sovereigns of gold jewellery, 5 kg of silver and Rs 6.5 lakh in cash.
According to police, the gang barged into the two decades old Angalamman Temple at Gandhinagar of Kumarapalayam area near Namakkal in the late night of Wednesday. The gang broke open the locks of the gate and sanctum sanctorum. They stole 100 sovereigns of gold jewellery, five kg of silver ornaments and Rs 6.5 lakh in cash and fled from the spot.
The priest of the temple Angappasamy and his brother Vadivel were sleeping at a room in the temple and they were unaware of incident due to rain at night.
