It’s ‘Thala Diwali’ for us: Nasser

He also said, we wanted to start with a good note
There was a jubilant mood at the Nadigar Sangam premises where 2000 odd members of the association from the city had gathered on the occasion of receiving Diwali gifts. Speaking on the occasion, Nasser, the newly elected president said, “This is an emotional moment for us. We (the new set of office bearers) assumed office for the first time and feel extremely happy. It’s like ‘Thala Diwali’ for all of us. We wanted to start with a good note and hence started distributing special Diwali gifts, which include a saree, dhoti and sweet boxes to all 3250 members. I hope this joy continues even after our term completes after three years.”
A total of Rs 25 lakh have been spent for the purchase of gifts, said an official statement. The treasurer of the association, Karthi, who was the first to arrive at the venue, said, “Due to some legal hassles, only those who have actor’s identity cards are eligible to vote in elections as well as to receive any benefits from the association. Some of them are legally allowed to work in the industry. We want the benefits to reach the members. Even today, out of 2000 who were given Diwali goodies, 400 actors do not have the eligibility to vote.”
Vishal, who came from the shooting break, said, “It is the first time such an initiative is happening. As promised, talks are being initiated for the construction of the Sangam building and very soon we will make an official announcement.”
