Truecaller celebrates 200 million user mark; introduces new utility updates

The tagging feature allows users to tag contacts based on a broad range of categories

Mumbai: Truecaller on Thursday announced the launch of two new utility updates for its app to after they attained 200 million users on Thursday. The tagging and tranliteration features are two new updates tthat will considerably help users optimise the app and use it according to their convenience.

The new tagging feature will allow users to tag a contact based on a broad range of categories such as transportation, banking and finance, drinks or nightlife and many more.

“Over time, we envision using this information to improve our users ability to identify who is contacting them, why they are contacting them, what they are contacting them about, and be able to make an informed decision as to whether to take the call, or not,” said co-founder and CEO, Alan Mamedi.

The new tagging feature will categorise contacts accordingly

When a user looks at the profile of a number on an android device, they will automatically get an option to tag that number. A user can choose the most appropriate tag that best suits the topic on why the number would be calling.

True caller goes ‘desi’

Apart from the new tagging feature, Truecaller also introduced a new transliteration feature that makes the app more convenient and user friendly. Available as an update to the Hindi version of Truecaller, this feature will activate real-time Hindi transliteration of the caller ID function.

The tranliteration feature can be used to enable Hindi as a language

To activate the transliteration feature, a user has to go to the settings and enable Hindi language option and the next call will be available in Hindi. The update is available on all Android devices that run Truecaller version 6.10 onwards.

“It is great to see Truecaller making efforts that make the app more relevant to the user. Where I come from, we like speaking, reading and interacting in Hindi. I was pleasantly surprised with this new offering by Truecaller and I am sure like me most of the Hindi speaking users would love this feature,” said famous Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
