Security tightened ahead of PM's Srinagar visit

Over hundred separatist leaders and activists have been taken into preventive custody

Srinagar: Post the announcement made by chairman of Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Shah Geelani to lead a 'million march' on the day Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address a rally here, security has been doubled-up to prevent any untoward incident.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police has increased vigil around Sher-e-Kashmir cricket stadium where the Prime Minister is scheduled to address a public rally on November 7.

Ahead of the Prime Minister's rally, around a hundred separatist leaders and activists have been taken into preventive custody to ensure that the rally passes off without any problems.

The Bharatiya Janata Party's state president Jugal Kishore Sharma expressed his faith in the police force to maintain the security of the place.

"The security agencies are doing their work properly. The Jammu and Kashmir police are capable of maintaining security. And I am sure that no problem would arise with respect to security. We also appeal to the people to not worry and attend the rally in large numbers," he said.

Sharma further said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir were excited to hear the Prime Minister because of his incessant expression of concern for the state.

"Prime Minister's Srinagar visit is the first after the BJP-PDP government has formed in the state. Along with the Jammu and Kashmir government, the people of Kashmir are excited for the Prime Minister's visit. And the way Prime Minister Narendra Modi is concerned about the state has made people eager to hear him," he said.

"Each person wants to hear the Prime Minister of the country. I hope that the place allotted by the government for the rally falls short of accommodating the people," he added.
