Backing Congress in BBMP a mistake: HDK
‘Even after being in power for two months, the party hasn’t provided adequate funds for development’
BENGALURU: The first cracks in the two-month-old coalition of Congress and JD(S) in BBMP surfaced with state JD (S) president H D Kumaraswamy on Wednesday threatening to walk out citing administrative lapses in the civic body.
He told the media here “The day we decided to support the Congress, I realised that it was a mistake. We had seen the BJP looting BBMP for five years and supported the Congress. Since the party is in power in the state, we thought that it would provide adequate funds for development. Now, even after two months, nothing has happened. The minister goes around the city with the Mayor just for publicity. The garbage situation is worsening every day. Why should we continue to support (Congress) if the situation is like this?” Citing an example of Laggere corporator, Mr Kumaraswamy alleged that Rajarajeshwarinagar MLA Mr Munirathna, would never allow any one to work. “During the election of Mayor and deputy Mayor, the Chief Minister had promised corporators that he would release Rs 50 lakhs for each ward. Now, nothing is released. The support for Congress is for only one year, and not for five years. They should realise this,” he warned.
Taking a dig at Mr Siddaramaiah over farmer suicides, Mr Kumaraswamy said at large number of farmer families had never received ex-gratia from the government. In Haveri district, 65 farmers committed suicide, but only nine received compensation. In Chikkamagaluru district, only 11 families out of 39 which witnessed suicides received ex-gratia amount. In Koppal, minister Shivaraj Tangadagi never visited any farmer’s house to offer condolences though 29 cases of suicides were reported, he said adding “the Chief Minister should stop debating over beef and whether Lord Rama had a father or not. The priority is burning issues of the land, where farmers are committing suicide everyday. The Chief Minister boasts of earmarking Rs 15,000 crores for the welfare of backward classes. Let him go through the caste combination of farmers who have committed suicide. All come under AHINDA category.”
Training his guns on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the issue of intolerance, Mr Kumaraswamy said he had met Mr N R Narayanamurthy a couple of days ago. “Mr Murthy was disappointed with Mr Siddaramaiah, who had neither visited the electronic city during the last two years, nor held any meeting with IT professionals. Mr Narayanamurthy also told me about an incident where a foreign investor asked him if his investments would be safe in India and if he visited India, will there be no threat to his life. This was the confidence foreigners are reposing in Mr Modi government and Mr Modi's ‘Make in India’ slogan is know internationally as death in India,'' he added.
