‘Movements’ all the way
Victoria Hauke and Phillip van der Heijden from Germany were in Hyderabad to create ‘Dance movements’ as a part of their theatre performance. Says Victoria, “I have been to Hyderabad earlier on a production with sound artist Andi Otto and on a collaboration with classical dancer Dr Alekhya Punjala from the city.
Dance to me is something internal and is a set of structures which might remain same or change from time to time or from country to country. It’s an intercultural communication beyond borders. I have also taken dance into water with a production Visions of Ian Watermann. Earth, nature and water are all full of ‘movements’ which are the essence of any dance form.”
Says Phillip, “What we showcase, is nothing but an image of emotions which come out in the form of ‘movements’. It’s the sensation of opening up abstract feelings and we also aim to establish a deep connect with the audience. At first, a few viewers are surprised when I gaze or make certain dance movements while maintaining eye contact with them. But that changes soon after and I can see their inclination to be a part of the process. There lies the beauty of it all.”
