Popcorn Time gets shut; reincarnates again

The popular Netfix-style pirated movie streaming service was shut by the MPAA

The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) recently shut down the famous and most popular Netfix-style pirated movie streaming service. The main portal, Popcorn Time (popcorntime.io) actually shut its site due to some internal issues between the developers.

Last year in March, Popcorn Time was shut down by constant legal pressure from the MPAA.

Popcorn Time is known for its free pirated movie streaming and was recently shut down due to its internal problems. But the MPAA believed that they were behind the entire shut down. Popcorn Time recently tweeted, which also meant that it was their last message on Twitter. ‘http://status.popcorntime.io/ Probably last @popcorntimetv Status. Please support our legal project @butterproject ,Thank you all for your support,’ is what was posted.

This came soon after the developers left fearing that a paid anonymising VPN service was proposed as inclusive of their service.

However, the internal issue turned out to be a different move altogether. They have now released Butter, a legal version of their app. They are now available on another website under the name of popcorn-time.se

Popcorn Time tweeted again (on Nov 3) stating ‘hey internets, apparently @MPAA thinks we're dead, are we ?’

The service is back online along with Butter, and their new website mentions in bold letters ‘This Popcorn Time service will never be taken down. Download and enjoy.’
