Google’s new ‘Smart Reply’ feature can automatically respond to emails for you

The 'Smart Reply' feature will be available on the Gmail app for Android and iOS

Mumbai: Google has introduced a new feature that will allow users to reply to an email instantly by offering three ‘automatic response’ options, which a user can choose from.

The new ‘Smart Reply’ feature has been introduced by the tech giants for its Gmail app service and comes as an addition to their earlier Inbox feature, which was initiated to assist users list and categorize their emails.

According to a survey, a standard Gmail user spends about 13 hours a week checking mails and replying to them. However, the new feature will massively help users reduce the amount of time taken to respond to mails.

Most emails require personal care and attention that only an human being can provide, however, the new technology will employ artificial intelligence to understand an email and auto-generate three applicable responses such as ‘I’ll send it to you’ or ‘I’ll look into it”.

The user is then required to select the best relevant response out of three displayed options. Even though the process is not fully automatic, it is sure to help users reply on the go.

Interestingly, the app gets familiar with your replies over a certain period of time: if you never choose a particular response option, it will never show that option again in future.

According to Google, the feature will be available on the English language version of its inbox via Gmail app for Android and iOS later this week, but no announcements have been made on whether this feature will be integrated in the web-version of Gmail. The ‘Smart Reply’ is sure to help individuals effortlessly respond to emails using their smartphones.
