Islamabad: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan is hardly visible these days as he faces the aftershocks of his broken marriage with Reham Khan.
The 62-year-old cricketer-turned-politician had married 42-year-old Reham Khan — a former BBC weather host and a mother of three from her previous marriage — in January this year at his Islamabad home and divorced her last Friday.
Mr Khan has since not spoken to the media to avoid any further misunderstanding with his ex-wife which could damage his political future.
British-Pakistani businessman Zulfi Bukhari — a close friend of Mr Khan — on Monday held “crisis talks” with Reham in the United Kingdom. Mr Bukhari had been tasked by Mr Khan to meet Reham Khan in a central London hotel to “resolve” the matters as part of the “damage control exercise”, according to a party insider.
Sources said that the separation was “mutually agreed”.
Another source, however, spoke about a “controversial email sent on Thursday” and a “text message” which had caused a lot of issues.
“Imran Khan and Zulfi Bukhari have spent several hours in privacy discussing various scenarios. Zulfi Bukhari has conveyed the message of Reham Khan and she hasn’t minced words,” said the source.
Both Mr Imran and Reham Khan have rejected speculations about financial settlements as “absolutely false and shameful”.
Credible sources in PTI said Reham Khan had not made any financial demand. “It is between Imran Khan, Zulfi and Reham Khan at this stage and no one else knows what’s going on. There are other demands but they are not of financial nature. Imran Khan had spoken highly of Reham Khan, stating that he had the “greatest respect for Reham’s moral character and her passion”.
