No bail for man accused of stalking and killing sisters
Amit Singh has been accused of stalking and then stabbing Sree Lekha
Hyderabad: Justice Raja Elango of the Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday refused to grant bail to Amit Kumar Singh, accused of the brutal murder of two sisters — Sree Lekha and Yamini — at their residence in Chaitanyapuri near Kothapet in July this year.
Amit Singh has been accused of stalking and then stabbing Sree Lekha, who spurned his advances, along with her elder sister Yamini Saraswati to death. According to police, the victims received 17 and 10 stabs respectively, in the brutal assault and succumbed to their injuries in a private hospital.
Yamini, 22, had completed her B.Tech in 2014, and was preparing for bank recruitment tests, while Sree Lekha, the younger sister, was pursuing final year B.Tech.
The incident took place when their parents left for work. TS additional public prosecutor D. Rami Reddy, opposing the bail petition, submitted that the accused had murdered both the sisters as per a plan and fled the scene of offence.
He said there was scope that the accused will run away if enlarged on bail and scope of threatening the witnesses in the case. Considering the submissions of the prosecutor, Justice Elango dismissed the bail petition.
Pay penalty or go to jail, officer told:
A division bench comprising Acing Chief Justice Dilip B. Bhosale and Justice S.V. Bhatt of the Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday directed the Ranga Reddy district joint sub-registrar Mohammad Yusuf to either pay the Rs 1,000 penalty imposed on him or go to jail for seven days.
The bench was dealing with an appeal by Mr Yusuf challenging an order of a single judge in awarding penalty of Rs 1,000 in a contempt case. The judge awarded punishment to the appellant in a contempt case moved by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) Employees Cooperative Housing Society alleging that the authorities have allowed multiple and fraudulent registrations on the society’s land in Hafeezpet of Ranga Reddy district.
Though the court had earlier directed the authorities to implement a memo that they themselves had issued in 2012, there was no action.
