Chennai: With the onset of November, DMK and AIADMK district secretaries are now dispatching ward secretaries to step up poll duty. ‘Vatta seyalalars’ of ruling party are now preparing the names of those eligible for government freebies, while DMK men are on voter roll enumeration process and also identifying party polling booth agents. “Yes, we have begun the preliminary works for 2016 Assembly polls. In South Chennai, there are 72 wards and in all these wards a party advocate is roped in to analyse the photo electoral rolls, so that there is no foul play in the process of inclusion and deletion of names”, says DMK’s south Chennai district secretary and former mayor Ma. Subramanian.
Party booth level agents had also been identified for Saidapet, Alandur, Sholinganallur, Virugambakkam and Velachery Assembly constituencies. First level orientation programme has commenced for about 300 party workers. For the next two months, a series of public meetings and rallies protesting and exposing the government departments will be held. Ward and zonal office-bearers would also reach out to public campaigning against the ruling AIADMK from January, he said.
On a daily basis, street-corner meetings and week-end protests are planned and so far in the past two months, 201 street corner meetings have been conducted in South Chennai, he added.
“Amma (Jayalalithaa) has instructed all district secretaries to closely monitor the DMK’s campaign and conduct counter campaigns. And at every ward level, we are tracking all those below poverty line, so that every resident has availed himself or herself the benefits of State government schemes and freebies, said an AIADMK senior. Till January, the freebie distributions will continue. In Chennai, the party has directed all district secretaries to distribute pamphlets and organise public meetings explaining the achievements of AIADMK government, the functionary added.
Similarly, DMK Chennai west district secretary J. Anbalagan is on a spree conducting public meetings and to counter this, AIADMK district secretary Senthamilan is also conducting meetings at the same venue, a day after the DMK’s event.
