BJP sees plot behind delimitation
Delimitation of divisions in the GHMC limits has kicked up a row
Hyderabad: Delimitation of divisions in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits has kicked up a row, with the BJP complaining against the ruling TRS-MIM combine to Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan. The BJP accused the TRS-MIM combine of “arbitrarily restructuring” the existing divisions to weaken the BJP-TD strongholds for political gain. The BJP sought the Governor’s intervention in the matter, review of the entire delimitation process and directions to the government to increase the number of divisions from 150 to 200 as was promised to the High Court.
Mr Narasimhan assured the BJP team, led by party Floor leader in the Assembly K. Laxman, that he would look into their grievances and take appropriate action. Meanwhile, TD’s Hyderabad unit president and MLAs met newly-appointed GHMC commissioner G. Janardhana Reddy and submitted division-wise objections on delimitation to him.
“The GHMC has issued a notification on delimitation of the civic body jurisdiction into 150 election wards along with boundary description of each ward. The notification stands in contrast with the stated policy decision of the government and in contravention of an affidavit submitted to the High Court,” the memorandum said.
Dr Laxman, who was accompanied by party MLA and leaders Chintala Ramachandra Reddy, Venkat Reddy, Bhanwarlal and others, alleged that municipal divisions like Kukatpally, Ziaguda, Bagh Lingampally and Domalguda among others where the BJP-TD combine have a stronghold, were being split irrationally to weaken the parties.
He alleged that the TRS, under the influence of the MIM, had taken a U-turn on increasing the number of municipal divisions from 150 to 200, well aware that it cannot win. “KCR said the government has decided to increase the number of divisions from 150 to 200 in GHMC limits in tune with the increase in voters from 54 lakh to 67 lakh, but has made an about-turn now. We want to know why the government has dropped the plan. The government has to explain,” Dr Laxman said.
Discrepancies pointed out by MBT to GHMC chief:
MBT leaders Khayam Khan and Amjed Ullah Khan on Tuesday met newly-appointed GHMC commissioner B, Janardhan Reddy and submitted a memorandum alleging discrepancies in delimitation of municipal wards. The MBT leaders alleged that the delimitation was carried out to suit the whims and fancies of one political party, namely the MIM and that the GHMC officials did not even make any field visits.
“As per GO MS No. 570 (MA&UD), natural boundaries should be maintained during delimitation of municipal wards and a municipal ward should not be in two Assembly constituencies, but in the Old City, many wards cross two Assembly constituencies,” they said.
