Sony’s dull Paris show
The new Gran Turismo Sport will support VR and Sony also announced Quantic Dream’s Detroit: Become Human
After a great showing at E3 and TGS, Sony’s Paris Games Week press conference had some big announcements despite the show being overall, pretty underwhelming. Too much time was spent talking about virtual reality. Granted, Sonny need to show why people need to purchase PlayStation VR, but this wasn’t the stage to do so.
The third-party partnerships section was right in the beginning which showed new trailers for Call of Duty: Black Ops III and Star Wars Battlefront. Afterwards, almost everything shown was either fully exclusive or console exclusive to the PS4.
Horizon Zero Dawn received a new trailer, showing a fight with the same Thunderjaw, just in a different location. Guerrilla showcased how Aloy can hunt for resources, and they were able to pause the game and show Thunderjaw’s weak points. We also got our first glimpse of Uncharted 4 multiplayer, which seems to be embracing the supernatural side of Uncharted for its multiplayer modes.
But the highlights of the show were the three games shown towards the end. Gran Turismo Sport was announced for PS4 and was confirmed to support VR, and Wild received a new demo which featured a Shaman controlling animals to solve problems.
The conference ended with the announcement of Quantic Dream’s new game, Detroit: Become Human which will be based on a tech demo released a few years ago, where androids are live like slaves to humans.
These are all notable announcements, but the pacing and presentation was not as good as E3. Sony will host another meet this year at PSX in December, and we are hoping see a new God of War game or Sony Bend’s new IP at that event.
