Treated Nala water earns Rs 4 lakh a day

Hyderabad: Treated nala water has generated revenues of over Rs 4 lakh for the HMDA till date. Each day, eight million gallon of water is sold at the four filling stations at Sanjeevaiah Park to South Central Railways (SCR) and private construction companies.
The nala water is treated at the 20 MLD sewage treatment plant adjacent to Khairatabad flyover on Balkapur nala of the Hussainsagar.
Another Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) of 30 MLD capacity, is located at Picket Nala opposite KIMS Hospital for tertiary treatment.
The Picket Nala IND (Interruption and Diversion) and two STPs of 30 and 20 MLD capacity have been taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 66 crore. South Central Railway has been purchasing treated water for a few years.
Officials from the Engineering wing of HMDA said, “SCR and a few private companies are regular buyers; the demand is not much, it might increase in summer. We also have to fix a rate depending on 5,000 and 10,000 litres per tanker.
