Projects included completion of digital literacy, infra development in 100 hospitals

KOZHIKODE: For the third consecutive year, the National Service Scheme directorates of the state have been given the Indira Gandhi National NSS Award for the best university/directorate. The NSS Technical Cell bagged the award for the work of the NSS volunteers this academic year.
The NSS Technical Cell Kerala bagged the award instituted by the Ministry of youth affairs and sports for contributing over Rs 17 crore to the treasury by implementing several special projects.
Technical cell NSS project consultant Ravi Mohan said, “Numerous projects were undertaken by the team in one year, including ‘Punarjjani’ for infrastructure development in 100 hospitals in the state”.
The other projects included completion of digital literacy and declaration of Tirur as India’s first complete e-Governance literate municipality under e-governance and construction of 35 houses under ‘Home for Homeless’ scheme.
The cell also renovated 258 toilets as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan programme and set up more than 55,000 pipe compost units.
State technical education director Dr K. Vijayakumar will receive the plaque for Best University/ Direc-torate from President Pranab Kumar Mukherjee at a function to be held in Rashtrapati Bhavan on Indira Gandhi’s birth anniversary on November 19.
NSS Technical Cell state programme coordinator Abdul Jabbar Ahamed will receive the award for the best NSS Programme Coordinator. The award consists of Rs 3 lakh, medal and a certificate.
