Necklace road to get a facelift

The waterfront Necklace Road is set for a colourful facelift
HYDERABAD: The waterfront Necklace Road is set for a colourful facelift. The 2.5-km stretch will soon have multi-colour flowering plants similar to the ones in Outer Ring Road. Plants and trees that would have flowers ranging from violet to purple to magenta are being set up by HMDA there to give it an enchanting new look, with fragrance also being around.
S. Srinivas, director of Buudha Purnima Project of HMDA, explains, “Plants bearing seasonal flowers of almost 15 to 20 varieties are being introduced to Necklace Road. Those of roses, ixora, lilies, bougainvillea, begonia, dahlia, heliconia, hibiscus, lantana, orchids, pssiflora, petunia, plumeria and other flowering plants are identified for the project. A similar plantation drive has been taken up on Outer Ring Road (ORR) to make it more attractive. A Bathukamma trail has already been developed on the land available between the Necklace Road railway station and the main road right up to PV Ghat. The project is implemented by the urban forestry wing of the HMDA.”
Apart from plantation, several theme parks are been developed in the bigger parks of Necklace Road. “In Sanjeevaiah Park, the space used earlier to dump dredged waste from the nala is being turned into a Bamboo Park with different varieties of bamboos brought from various parts of the state. Also, a Butterfly Park and a Palmatum Park are being planned. A palmatum park already exits in the city, and the theme park on Necklace Road will have added varieties of palm trees. The walkway of Necklace Road, that was destroyed owing to the HMWSSB Kukatpally diversion project, is being restored,” added the director HMDA is distributing saplings free of cost at all nurseries.
