Man sneaks into Karnataka CM’s house with old rusty knife, caught
BENGALURU: High drama prevailed for sometime at the official residence of the Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Kumara Krupa road on Monday after a 54-year-old man armed with a knife arrived at CM’s house to submit a petition. The man was immediately taken into custody by the security personnel.
H M Lingaraju, who hails from T. Narsipur Taluk in Mysuru had reportedly managed to gain entry into ‘Krishna’ the official residence of the chief minister, when a group of protestors were trying to enter into the premises. The incident said to have taken place around 10 am, said the police.
Speaking with DC, Sandeep Patil, DCP Central said, “Investigations reveal that Lingaraju had come to Mr. Siddaramaiah’s house to submit a petition. Before allowing them to meet the minister, the security personnel who conduct a thorough check upon frisking found an old rusted knife in his pocket. He was immediately detained. When we asked as to why he was carrying a knife, he said he uses it for cutting vegetables.”
“The man is mentally unstable. He was taken to High grounds police station where the doctors were called in for medical opinion and it was learnt that Lingaraju has a history of mental illness. The police who contacted their counterparts in Mysuru are also conducting a background check on Lingaraju. He will be produced before the judicial magistrate under Mental Health Act,” added Mr. Patil.
According to the police, Lingaraju is currently unemployed and had come to the city on Sunday evening. During questioning it came to light that Lingaraju has a history of mental illness. He even told police that a helicopter had dropped him to the CMs residence. Further probe is underway.
