KOZHIKODE: Kozhikode airport is in a pathetic condition now. It is alleged that the passengers and their relatives who come to the airport do not even get drinking water. Taxi services have been cut down and the shift of employees has been reduced from three to two.
“The airport surroundings have been deserted by most taxi operators. The passengers and relatives are also suffering due to the cut in shifts of employees and many employees are not reporting for work,” an office- bearer of air passengers association and Calicut Development Authority told Deccan Chronicle.
The airport is closed down from 12 noon to 8 pm every day and only night and early morning flights are operating.
When contacted, an airport manager said, “we never used to provide drinking water in the waiting area. We don’t need the services of employees when the airport is shut and that is why one shift has been called off,” he added.
The airport authorities should ensure safe travel for passengers and provide them proper amenities. “The partial closure has affected the business at the airport and this place could soon become a place for anti-socials,” the office-bearer said.
