KCR misusing treasury: Shabbir Ali

Only portfolios under CM, kin getting funds, says Shabbir
Hyderabad: Leader of Opposition in the state Legislative Council Shabbir Ali on Monday accused Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and his family of “encroaching” the Telangana State treasury.
Speaking at a ‘Meet the Press’ programme on “Telangana: Past, Present and Future” organised by Telangana Union of Working Journalists, Mr Shabbir Ali said that the Chief Minister has diverted almost all the funds to departments under his control or to portfolios held by his son K. Taraka Rama Rao or nephew T. Harish Rao.
“The CM has been using Telangana State and its resources as his personal fiefdom,” he said.
To back his accusation, Mr Shabbir Ali said that out of the Rs 1, 60 lakh-crore required for the flagship programmes announced by the Chief Minister, Rs 35,000 crore was earmarked for the drinking Water Grid, Rs 25,000 crore for Grama Jyothi programmes looked after by Mr Rama Rao, and Rs 25,000 crore for Mission Kakatiya and an equal amount for irrigation works, for which the department is headed by Mr Harish Rao.
“Even other programmes like SC, BC and minority welfare come under departments headed by the CM himself,” Mr Shabbir Ali said. He also alleged that Mr Chandrasekhar Rao was not serious about keeping the promise of 12 per cent reservation for Muslims in the state.
“The Congress regime, led by Y.S. Rajashekar Reddy, announced five per cent quota for Muslims just 56 days after coming to power,” Mr Shabbir Ali said. He ridiculed Mr Chandrasekhar Rao by saying that he expected help from the Prime Minister with regard to enhancing reservations for Muslims. Mr Shabbir Ali said that the BJP-led government had scrapped Muslim quota in Maharashtra even though it was cleared by the court.
