DMK seeks more time to go through electoral rolls

At least seven clear days have passed after list of claims and objections has been published

Chennai: Opposition DMK on Monday petitioned the Chief Electoral Officer Sandeep Saxena seeking time to go through the state electoral rolls now undergoing inclusion, deletion and corrections.

DMK organising secretary R. S Bharathi in his petition said from January 6, 2015, till September 10 about 4.20 lakh applications were received for new inclusions, which is comparatively 6.4 times higher than the claims made in same period of the previous year (2014).

From September 15 till October 24, a total number of 16.94 lakh applications were received for inclusion, which is 25.9 times more than the inclusion during the comparative period of previous year.

A bare perusal and comparison of the data would reveal that there has been a huge increase of inclusion in the past three special camp periods.

“Unless the details of claims are furnished to our party, we are not in a position to submit our objections and moreover, there is no time given for submission of objections.”

At least seven clear days have passed after list of claims and objections has been published. The party was entitled to get copies of details of claims, on weekly basis, but so far, no such list has been given either to the party office or to our booth level agents.

“We, the DMK party are unable to file objections and we understand that the ruling party could have inflated this numbers by adding bogus voters and already the names of DMK sympathisers have been deleted”, the petition said. The party may seek legal remedy if there was failure to address the issue.
