Debt-ridden farmer ends life in Mandya

He ended his life by hanging himself at his cattle hut
Mysuru: One more farmer ended his life in Mandya district in Malvalli Rural police station limits here on Sunday night. Forty-year-old Shivanna hailing from Manchenahalli, reportedly ended his life by hanging himself at his cattle hut next to his house at around 9pm on Sunday. Son of Nanjegowda, Shivanna is survived by his wife and two children. His father Nanjegowda owned four acres of land and they cultivated tomato, maize and groundnut.
According to complaint by Nanjegowda, Shivanna borrowed Rs 2,62,000, including Rs 35,000 from Dharmasthala self-help group, and Rs 30,000 from a women’s self-help group, and pledged jewels for Rs 80,000 to drill a borewell. Unable to bear the burden of loans, he took the extreme step, police said.
