Hyderabad: CCTV footage of the abortive chain-snatching incident at Vanasthalipuram on Monday showed that the duo approached the victim on a bike from behind and attempted to snatch her chain. One constable, who was behind the woman, ran towards the offenders and tried to catch them.
They pushed him and moved forward. Another constable, who was standing on the other side of the road, rushed towards the bike but could not stop it. He then took out his service revolver and fired twice. The bikers escaped without stopping the vehicle. The cops then followed on their bike.
The incident occurred near Rajdhani crossroad in Autonagar at around 11.10 am when the victim, Ms Sai Anuradha, was walking towards her home. The snatcher could not take the chain.
The anti-chain snatching squads have identified the vulnerable areas and armed men have been deployed there to catch the snatchers in action. The two cops were at Autonagar as it is a vulnerable area.
The 60 teams, which were deployed recently, have been trained in firing, bike racing and unarmed combat. Police has launched a manhunt for snatchers. A case has been registered.
