Bloodbath in Mangaluru jail: 2 from Chhota Shakeel’s gang butchered

Two hardcore criminals were hacked to death by five other prisoners

Bengaluru: In a brazen attempt to take control of the underworld inside the Mangaluru prison, two hardcore criminals – Madoor Yusuf alias Isubu and Ganesh Shetty, who have alleged links with Dawood Ibrahim’s right hand man – Chhota Shakeel – were hacked to death on Monday around 8 am by five other prisoners, who belong to the gang of absconding rival gangster Vicky Shetty.

The five accused – Nitesh, Shobhraj, Yuvraj, Pradeep and Umesh, who are closely linked to Vicky’s associate Akash Bhavan Sharan, who was recently transferred from Mangaluru Central prison to Shivamogga Central jail – scaled the wall from one side of the prison enclosure to the other side, where Yusuf and Shetty were housed. The accused were armed with a dagger, which was “sent” to them early on Monday morning by their associates outside the prison.

“Somebody had thrown a dagger at around 7.30 am inside the jail compound, where the accused prisoners are being kept. After his breakfast, Yusuf had gone out of his enclosure. The killers were informed about Yusuf’s movement and they attacked him with the dagger. Superintendent of Prison B.T. Obaleshappa immediately arrived at the scene and tried to intervene between the warring gangs, but they attacked him and he was also injured. Yusuf was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Later, they attacked Ganesh and he also died of his injuries,” said an official source. According to another officer, after Yusuf was attacked, some prison inmates of his community attacked Ganesh and he died.

“The prison clash leading to the murder of the two criminals took a communal turn in the morning and the prison officers immediately alerted the higher officers and Superintendent of Police S. Murugan rushed to the spot. Additional Director General of Police and Inspector General of Prisons Kamal Pant, who was in Delhi, rushed to Mangaluru to take stock of the situation,” the official said.
