Sunburnt scratches
This music festival will see a crew of international and local artistes take Bengaluru by storm!
From Bengaluru and Mumbai to Hyderabad and Delhi, India’s metropolitan music buffs are up and dancing as the annual festival in Goa is now rolling out into their own cities! With a jamboree of internationally celebrated artistes like R3HAB, DJ Snake, Matisse Sadko and Chuckie to nationally-acclaimed blends like DJ Shaan, Mojojojo, Sartek and Joshi under one roof, the Sunburn city festival opens in Bengaluru on November 12 at Bhartiya City.
From progressive house and hip hop tastefully blended with electronica to Dutch house, reminscient of psytrance, there’s a little something for everybody. He may have several tours lined up, but he can’t resist a good festival (and Indian food), and is stopping by Bengaluru first. “I’ve heard so much about the love and energy here,” says 29-year-old DJ R3hab, who alongside popular names like Afrojack and Chuckie is considered to be one of the proponents of a subgenre of EDM, modern Dutch house. You might be waiting to catch the live rendition of Burnin’, but R3hab promises that his music will storm you by surprise. “It’s a creative process and the state of mind during my performance that gives rise to my tunes – no preparations.” Alongside of him, this lineup will also see Matisse Sadko, Chuckie and despite his accident and doctors orders, the Grammy nominated music producer, DJ Snake.
Amongst local flavours like, DJ Shaan, Mojojojo, Sartek and Joshi’s tunes will meet you at the festival. Back in one of his favourite cities – one that he calls “musically educated and energetic”, DJ Shaan is excited to premiere some of his unreleased tracks at Sunburn as he gets ready for the season. “From flights to accommodation, a lot of them can’t really afford to go to Goa to be a part of the festival, but when the fest comes knocking on your city’s door, why wouldn’t you be there? It’s also a great way to educate folks across the country musicially. That’s how the genre grows,” says the first Indian DJ to dish out tunes at the prestigious Tomorrowland in Belgium. DJ Joshi on the other hand, is as excited for his early evening set as he is to gorge on some yummy dosas in namma Bengaluru. “I plan on keeping the vibe happy and bouncy to get people in the groove. I have said this before and will say it again – nobody in India dances as passionately as the Bengaluru crowd!” he says. So Bengaluru, are you ready to live, love and dance?
