Telangana: Election Commission team meets voters
Hyderabad: The special team constituted by the Election Commission to verify the allegations levelled by various Opposition parties that the names of several lakh genuine voters have been deleted arbitrarily has completed its task and will be leaving for Delhi on Monday.
The 14-member team, headed by West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer Sunil Gupta and Uttar Pradesh Additional CEO Ramakanth Pande had on Saturday visited the Sanathnagar Assembly constituency.
On Sunday, the team split into three groups and visited Uppal, Serilingampally and Kukatpally Assembly constituencies from where complaints of arbitrary removal of several voters hailing from Seemandhra region were received by the EC.
However, the team members refused to interact with the media. It is expected Mr Gupta and his team will prepare a detailed report after reaching Delhi and submit it to the EC.
It is expected that based on the nature of the report, the EC may seek comments from state’s Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar Lal and then will decide on the action to be taken.
According to sources, the EC teams went to some localities in the Assembly constituencies and recorded the versions of voters who had complained that their names were deleted without even formal notification.
