No woman among new sub-inspectors
1,026 sub-inspectors were selected in united Andhra Pradesh
Hyderabad: With an average age of 26, almost 50 per cent of the 492 sub-inspectors (SIs) who will be passing out of the Telangana State Police Academy, the first batch after formation of the state, are married. Ironically, there is not a single woman SI for Telangana in the batch. While 148 sub-inspectors are post-graduates, including Master of Technology, around 415 are undergraduates, including 42 engineers.
According to Telangana Police Academy officials, 1,026 sub-inspectors were selected in united Andhra Pradesh. Though the notification is pertaining to 2011, the recruitment and training were delayed due to litigations. Both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana sub-inspectors were initially trained in the same academy before Andhra Pradesh trainee sub-inspectors were shifted to Anantapur in April. They will pass out separately.
A Telangana Police Academy official said, “There are civil and reserve SIs in the batch. Out of these SIs, 295 are married and 269 are bachelors. Many of the 148 post-graduates are MBAs, MCA and M.Tech holders. This time the SIs were given field exposure wherein each SI was attached for a week to a police station. “They were also taken out to external institutions like National Police Academy, CISF, NISA, NDRF and Forensic Science laboratories. They were trained for nine months,” the academy official added. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Governor, Mr E.S.L. Narasimhan, will take part in the passing out parade of the sub inspectors on Monday.
