Malayalam will stand test of time, says K Jayakumar
Thrissur: Even though Malayalam language was presently facing several challenges, it would stand the test of time, said K. Jayakumar, vice-chancellor of Thunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University here.
He was speaking at a function jointly organised by Kerala Sahitya Akademi and Malayalam University as part of Malayalam Day Celebrations. “One of the major challenges facing Malayalam language is that Keralites are keeping aside their mother tongue and steadfast on learning English.
Such an attitude needs to change,” he said that an online Malayalam course would be launched in January to help those staying in other states and abroad. Chairman of Kerala Sahitya Akademi Chairman Perumbadavam Sreedharan said a book detailing the history of Malayalam literature would be published soon. Academy secretary R. Gopalakrishnan, K.M. Bharatan, M. Sreenathan and writer Akbar Kakkattil were present.
