Belagavi third in Smart City race

People's participation in the project seems good in three of the cities
Belagavi: With merely a fortnight left for submission of a comprehensive report by all six cities to the state government for implementation of the Smart City Project (SCP), people's participation in the project seems good in three of the cities but not so satisfactory in the other three in the state. In the last one week, people of Shivamogga city have been making submissions through MyGov.in giving several vital suggestions for improvement and development of their city under SCP.
So far, Shivamogga was at third spot in terms of submissions with merely 1025 until October 19, but the number of submissions has now risen to 1925. Hubballi-Dharwad which topped the six cities in terms of submissions from day one, is currently at second spot with 1573 submissions and Belagavi city showing 1468 submissions, standing third in the list. Most top officials in Belagavi are struggling to rope in more people in the next 15 days to ensure that the city gains a place in the first list of Smart Cities to be selected by the Centre. According to sources, the government will consider the reports to be submitted by the respective city's administration while selec
ting the first 100 cities in phase one of SCP. Since people's participation has been given high prominence in SCP, the cities having more involvement of people are expected to be shortlisted initially. Tumakuru has miserably failed to register submissions satisfactorily ever since the process of submissions began on MyGov.in. Only 90 people made submissions for Tumakuru and 135 for Davanagere.
Unfortunately, Mangaluru too has fared badly with just 734 submissions latest. on MyGov.in.Belagavi City Corporation Commissioner, G Prabhu has decided to add pace to people's participation' in view of the fast approaching deadline. He said, efforts are being made to reach most of the households to get suggestions besides reaching people through other means including websites, letters and meetings. Thousands of people have submitted written suggetions personally or in meetings organised by the district administration in the last few weeks, he said.
