All set for polling in Kozhikode
Kozhikode: Elaborate arrangements are in place for the polling in the district where 22,61,065 voters, 11,73,662 of them women, would elect 1762 representatives.
The state election commission has done all preparations at 1,896 polling stations across the district deploying 13,736 polling officials who have collected polling materials from 20 distribution centres on Sunday and stayed at the polling stations overnight.
Proceedings at 48 centres would be webcast and 18 centers video-graphed. ADGP (north zone) N. Shanker Reddy visited the trouble-torn Nadapuram region, Orkkatteri and Kuttiadi to have a final check on the security measures.
Mr Reddy told DC that all security systems were in place and sufficient personnel deployed. The Nadapuram region has a long history of political violence with a communal tinge.
Three companies of Karnataka police are deployed in sensitive areas like Valayam, Thottilpalam, Kuttiadi, Koorachundu and Peruvannamuzhi. Thunderbolt commandos, personnel from reserve battalion, and special commandos with anti-Maoist training from Karnataka had also been deployed.
Seven DySPs, 72 circle inspectors and 220 sub-inspectors under the monitoring of the DIG Dinendra Kashyap would ensure peaceful polling. The DIG would also monitor the security measures of all Maoist infested polling booths, he said.
