Two murdered over beef dispute in Coimbatore

Suddenly, one of the members of Sadiq Ali gang pulled out a butcher’s knife and stabbed both

Coimbatore: A six-member gang murdered two men on Edayar street by stabbing them with a knife following a dispute in Coimbatore on Saturday night. Police said the two men — M Moideen Basha, 34, a beef stall owner from Marakadai and his friend, Habeeb Muhammad, 23, from Madukkarai — were murdered brutally by a six-member gang.

The murderers were identified as Sadiq Ali, who also runs a beef stall, his brother Sheikh Ali and four others — Mansoor Ali, Zaheer, Askar Ali and Ashraf. Police said M. Moidneen, one of the victims, and Sadiq Ali were relatives.

It all started when Sadiq took away a few kilograms of beef from Moideen’s stall in his absence without making payment. He then had a quarrel with an employee over payment for the purchase. When Moideen got to know about it, he raised the issue with Sadiq triggering a wordy duel. To strike a compromise, Sadiq called Moideen for talks in a tea shop on Edayar street.

Moideen had gone with his friend Habeeb to talk but a duel ensued. Suddenly, one of the members of Sadiq Ali gang pulled out a butcher’s knife and stabbed both Moideen and his friend on their abdomen.

The two were rushed to Coimbatore Medical Centre and Hospital (CMCH), where Habeed died without responding to treatment on Sunday and Moideen died a little later. The Variety Hall road police has registered a case against the gang and special teams of police are on the lookout for all the persons who are now on the run.
