Telangana govt hikes ex gratia to kin of cops killed in terrorist violence

Families of Home Guards have been included in the list eligible for an ex gratia

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has enhanced the compensation/ ex gratia paid to the families of police personnel, Home Guards and civilians who die or are grievously hurt in extremist or terrorist violence.

"Government has decided to enhance the existing rates of ex gratia relief in respect of police personnel/ civilians and consider further enhancement of ex gratia relief to the next of kin of police personnel/civilians who were killed/permanently incapacitated/injured in extremist/terrorist violence duly, including Home Guards," Telangana Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma said in a Government Order.

For officers of the rank of SPs and all IPS officers, the ex gratia has been hiked to Rs 1 crore from the existing Rs 30 lakhs in case of death in extremist/terrorist violence.

In case of permanently incapacitation in extremist/terrorist violence, the ex gratia has been increased to Rs 50 lakhs from Rs 10 lakhs and it has been doubled to Rs 6 lakhs from Rs 3 lakhs in case of grievous hurt, the GO said.

For Inspectors, DSPs, Addl SPs and equivalent ranks of civil servants in other department, in case of death, the ex gratia has been increased to Rs 50 lakhs from Rs 30 lakh.

Regarding head constables, sub-inspector of police and equivalent ranks of civil servants of other departments, the ex gratia was hiked to Rs 45 lakhs (excluding police constables) from existing Rs 25 lakh.

Families of Home Guards, who until now were ineligible for an ex gratia, have been included in the list of those eligible for ex gratia. In case of death, the family of Home Guards will be given Rs 30 Lakhs while civilians will be paid Rs 25 lakhs from the existing Rs 10 lakh.

According to the GO the orders enhancing the ex-gratia comes into effect from June 2, 2014, when Telangana state was formed.
