Realtor duped of Rs 61 lakh, two arrested
Fake industrialist cheated through forged property documents
Tirupur: A real estate promoter from Tirupur has been duped of Rs 61 lakh by a fake industrialist through forged property documents. The police have arrested the fake industrialist and his accomplice who cheated the real estate promoter with forged documents. According to the police, Jothibasu, a resident of Ramapiran colony in Tirupur, is engaged in various real estate projects in and around Tirupur. In January this year, Philip Raja from Erode posed as an industrialist and befriended Jothibasu. He claimed that he owned a granite quarry in Melur in Madurai district and the Alwin Enterprises in Erode.
To make Jothibasu believe him, Philip Raja and his driver showed photographs purportedly taken along with IAS officer U. Sahayam. Philip also showed forged documents to show that he owned 32 lorries, 38 container trucks, six earthmovers and 12 tipper lorries. Philip said that all his vehicles were seized by the officials from the Mines department following a raid and he had to pay Rs 61 lakh as fine to recover all the vehicles. Philip also provided some fake documents to show that he had Rs 3.12 crore in his bank account, but had been frozen by officials.
Philip asked Jothibasu for Rs 61 lakh to pay the fine and promised to return the amount soon after his vehicles were released. Believing Philip, Jothibasu handed over Rs 61 lakh after getting post-dated cheques and some documents.
However, the game was up when Jothibasu deposited the cheques in the bank. He was shocked to know that all of them were fake. Following a complaint, the Tirupur Rural police registered a case and launched an investigation. A special team led by inspector Sundaraj arrested Philip and his accomplice Ramu on Friday night in Erode. Further investigations are on to recover the money.
