Mercury above normal in Telangana
Hyderabad: The Indian Meteorology Department (IMD) has warned that heavy rainfall might occur at isolated places in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore districts of coastal Andhra Pradesh on Sunday and Monday.
Moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers would occur at a few places over Rayalaseema. There was heavy rainfall at isolated places of coastal Andhra Pradesh on Saturday. Visakhapatnam recorded seven centimetres rainfall while Polavaram in West Godavari recorded four centimetres.
In Telangana state, one centimetre rainfall was recorded at Maganoor in Mahbubnagar. Hyderabad experienced a slight drizzle in some areas.
Temperatures continued to be above normal at many places over Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. In Telangana, maximum of 36 degree Celsius was recorded at Mahbubnagar, which is five degrees above normal.
In Andhra Pradesh too, a maximum of 36 degree Celsius was recorded at Nandigama. While minimum temperatures continue to be normal in most parts of Andhra Pradesh, in Telangana, they were above normal at many places.
A lowest of 19 degree Celsius was recorded in both states on Saturday at Arogyavaram in Andhra Pradesh and Hakimpet in Telangana. An official of the Indian Meteorology Department said that the Northeast monsoon is not active at present.
As a result, temperatures continue to be above normal at many places. Meanwhile, convective clouds exist over Telangana and coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Once the northeast monsoon becomes active it will result in showers in Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra Pradesh and also result in a dip in temperatures in Telangana.
