Hyderabad: Class II student falls into 7-feet open construction pit

Boy was trying to retrieve ball when he slipped and drowned

Hyderabad: A Class II student died as he fell into a seven-feet-deep pit dug for construction of a building in Saroornagar area Saturday. The deceased Bholenath, 8, was returning from school with his sister and the ball he was playing with fell in the pit.

While trying to take out the ball, he too fell in the pit. His parents Bobbin, a native of Maharashtra, had migrated to Hyderabad along with his wife 10 years ago.

The two worked as daily wage earners in a small factory in Bhagathsingh Nagar. The couple had three kids — Bholenath, Harika, 6, and a four-year boy. Bholenath and Harika studied at the ZPHS in Bhagathsingh Nagar. On Saturday, after school, Bholenath and Harika were walking back home.

When the two reached near the under-construction house of Rajendra Kumar, the ball Bholenath was playing with fell in the pit. It was filled with water. “Harika saw her brother falling into the pit and and informed the parents. By the time they reached, Bholenath had drowned,” he said.
