Hyderabad: The two tiger reserves of Telangana, Kawal and Amrabad, after a long wait finally received on Saturday funding from the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) for upkeep and maintenance.

Kawal tiger reserve received an amount of Rs 149.11 lakh against a requested amount of Rs 183.971 lakh. Amrabad received an amount of Rs 107.51 lakh which is almost the same amount as requested.

The two reserves were left to fend for themselves last year when after bifurcation NTCA funding was completely transferred to AP forest department. Since then TS tiger reserves have been awaiting NTCA funds. The fund will be used for paying salaries and security. This year for the first time payment will also be given to forest staff working at the reserves. Amrabad has about 17 tigers. Five tigers have been spotted around Kawal and one inside its core area.
